With the weather outside like it is right now, what better time to write about my top 5 summer beers for 2009. Referring to my first post, the list I had looked a little something like this in no particular order:
That being said, Sol costs $10.35 as per the BCL website. Its smooth, easily drinkable, 4.5% and a standard Mexican beer. A bit less carbonated than Corona I find, and Remy will rue the day that I left Dos Equis off of this list, but hey, rant about it in your own blog.
Number 2 on the list is Miller Genuine Draft. It comes in at $11.20 for a 6 pack, packing a tame 4.7% content. Its extremely easy to drink and a very blond draught beer, for the casual laid back summer day or for the lead up to a rowdy canucks game. Overall the drinkability of this beer doesnt exactly blow your mind, but its a pretty standard summer beer that is easily enjoyable.
Ahhh...number 3. Arguably my favourite of the summer beers, 4.8% Granville Island Honey Lager is a beer I picture perfectly with a patio or sitting around a BBQ on days like this. The official name, Cypress Honey Lager, delivers exactly that, a smooth dark-blonde lager with a sweeter finish. Tastes best out of the bottle, costing $11.50 at the BCL, but hell, I would drink this out of a boot. Its good to be here.
Carlsberg, the official beer of almost every major soccer competition shown on TSN and my beloved soccer team, Tottenham Hotspur. I bought this beer for my leadup to going to the UVic Grad Party at the Strathcona Hotel in the first week of April. 6 Bottles will get you 5% and $10.95 out of the wallet. The beer itself is quite crisp, and is a really good beer for those warmer summer nights. Enjoyed more as a beer to get the night started, than one to enjoy fully, Carlsberg is priced pretty reasonably and makes you look like a big shot because as their ads say, its the nicest bottle out there. I'd probably agree with them.
Last, but not least, comes Okanagan Springs 1516 Bavarian lager. Pricing out at $11.50 / 6 at the BCL, this 5% beer has arguably the fullest taste of the 5. Its smooth, looks light but has a thicker taste to it and is quite versatile as to how you want to drink it. Its good in cans, but I prefer bottles, and sits well as a patio beer, bbq beer, or just beer in general. Its good in every situation and definitely delivers taste wise for the price.
While a top "5" hardly seems like a complete list (id prefer a top 15) these 5 beers will find their way into my hands more often than not this summer, with me enjoying every last drop. Also, I encourage everyone if you can to find these on tap. They taste the best out of the keg, especially the Honey Brown. Any questions you have can be directed to me through messages on this account, hope you guys are enjoying a day like today, with the weather hitting 13 outside my window.
Chain Pizza reviews will be coming next, looking at Dominoes, Panago, Pizza Hut, and Athena's in Victoria (2 for 1).
