Pizza Chain Reviews

Before I start, I would recommend any pizza enthusiasts to check out Canadian Pizza Mag for a wide range of reviews from Canada and the US, covering many faucets of the industry.

Its a bigger review today - covering 3 main chains: Pizza Hut, Panago, and Dominoes. Since im doing 3 reviews and not 1, ill condense it more to bullet form. There are some keys here though, which I will explain.

Lets start with my least favourite, Pizza Hut.

Pros:
- Fast service, in house or delivery
- generally they give you a large amount of meat per portion you order
- the pizza itself isnt that bad in terms of taste and crust
- thin crust is the way to go. It's their best type and make the pizza (pepperoni at least) taste a hell of a lot better

Cons:
- the oiliest pizza I've had from a chain store. (the oil napkin dab actually works per food network's "Food Detectives" with Ted Allen.) So I would recommend that.
- they use processed cheese with no option for other cheese
- they put that cheese IN the crust, which is cool, but I find it pretty gross
- its expensive pizza when compared to dominoes and panago. Even when you order pickup, its still more expensive than the other two.

Rating: 4.4/8 slices

Panago. Arguably my pickup pizza of choice 2nd term 2009 at UVic. Mostly had to do with the fact that it was a 2min walk from my house. It is $10.50 for a large pepperoni, pickup. Thats the cheapest pickup pizza of the three you will find. And you get a dipping sauce for free. To the pros and cons:

Pros:
- crust is perfect thickness
- wide variety of pizzas like bacon cheesburger and tropical chicken
- cheap pickup prices ($10.50)
- free dipping sauce

Cons:
- switched to a call centre so you cannot call a store directly. takes more time and effort now.
- sometimes pieces are cut unevenly or not fully cut

Rating: 6.3/8 slices

Ahhhh domino's. I will state right away, the key with Domino's is knowing HOW TO ORDER properly. You can ask for medium crust, which is crispier than regular, but thicker than thin (obviously). Also, the best pizza I think they have is what was the Gotham Pepperoni Pizza, available during the showing of the Dark Knight.

A Gotham Pepperoni Pizza is a large pepperoni pizza with one and a half times the normal amount of pepperoni on medium crust. This is by far the best combination of topping and crust, with no added charge for price last time I checked.

Pros:
- fairly cheap pickup price for large pepperoni ($11.50/$12.00)
- crispy toppings and usually crispy crust
- better sides than pizza hut and panago (cinnastix, breadsticks - the cheesy bread is crap)
- can call most stores directly, but also have a call centre
- delivered in under 30 min or its free (note to self, live in remote area)
- you can order online @ dominos.ca

Cons:
- This clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYomw1cLA2U which was immediately followed by this apology: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l6AJ49xNSQ
- Domino's has completely forgotten about my order before, which really sucked. Its happened more than once.

Rating: 6.5/8 slices
